Legislation: SB 529 & SB 184 Effective Date: July 1st, 2007 & January 1st, 2008 Status: Active

Summary:The Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act (SB 529) requires among other provisions that public employers and contractors with the State must verify the status of newly hired employees. The effective dates for public employers and contractors, including subcontractors, to participate in I-9 verification are: July 2007 for every public employer, contractor and subcontractor with 500 or more employees; July 2008 for every contractor and subcontractor with 100 or more employees, and July 2009 for every contractor and subcontractor with 99 or fewer employees.
